ABOUT THE EQUITY CHALLENGE
Join us for the 10th edition of the Equity Challenge
In partnership with DataHaven, this edition of the Equity Challenge will focus on Data for Action, featuring a dynamic panel discussion on how data can drive equity in our communities. This conversation will explore the power, and responsibility, of using data to understand disparities and create meaningful change. To kick off the Equity Challenge, we are holding a webinar panel discussion on Thursday, January 29th, from 3PM to 4PM.
This conversation will explore the power, and responsibility, of using data to understand disparities and create meaningful change. Our panel will feature:
- DataHaven – offering a behind-the-scenes look at their reports and data collection process.
- Connecticut Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity and Opportunity – sharing insights on equity initiatives and policy implications.
- United Way of Connecticut – discussing ALICE data and what it reveals about financial hardship in our state.
- A Greater New Haven nonprofit leader – illustrating how organizations use data to educate, advocate, and tell their story.

United Way of Greater New Haven invites our community to learn, reflect, and take action together through a self-guided journey in our Equity Challenges. Each five‑day Challenge offers a personal and collective commitment to spend just 10–15 minutes a day engaging with curated resources that deepen our understanding of equity — and how bias, privilege, oppression, and trauma show up in our everyday lives.
Every Challenge kicks off with a webinar that brings together panelists with content expertise and lived experience related to that Challenge’s topic. These conversations ground the week’s learning in real stories, data, and perspectives from across our region.
Each Challenges focus on a different issue, exploring the history, systems, and lived experiences that shape inequities in our communities. Participants receive daily emails featuring a brief topic overview and multiple ways to engage — articles, videos, podcasts, and real‑world actions you can take. You choose how you want to learn and can re-visit any of the previous Challenges below.
As we continue building and expanding this space, our goal remains the same: to deepen awareness of how equity — or the lack of it — impacts people across our community, and to inspire meaningful steps toward change. Whether you’re just beginning or continuing a lifelong learning journey, the United Way of Greater New Haven Equity Challenge is for everyone.
